SPERI at the University of Sheffield aims to bring together leading interdisciplinary international researchers, policy-makers, journalists and opinion formers to develop new ways of thinking about the economic and political challenges posed for the whole world by the current combination of financial crisis, shifting economic power and environmental threat.

Challenge

The newly-founded SPERI required a website to engage with their audiences, stimulate discussion and share its research. Additionally, the website was to be used as a promotion vehicle for the inaugural SPERI conference.

Approach

With a focus on creating a place for discussion, I developed the responsive website using WordPress, which suited the requirement for informational webpages as well as blog posts that visitors could comment on.

User interface

I translated the branding developed by an external agency into the online environment, working closely with key stakeholders within the Institute.

To reinforce SPERI being part of the University of Sheffield, in addition to including the University’s logo and global navigation, Blake, one of The University of Sheffield’s custom typefaces and an integral part of the University’s brand assets, was used for headings and navigation elements. This was the first application of the typefaces as web fonts.
